When I first met Lisa, babies were the last thing on either of our minds. I can say that with great confidence because we met when we were 15 at a high school dance our freshmen year. We really didn't get the opportunity to hang out together much after that, Lisa was very smart and really good at school, I on the other hand was not - we had different friends. Then, as chance would have it, we were reintroduced a few years later and ended up marrying brothers. I consider myself very lucky to have "met" Lisa twice in my life.
I consider Lisa to be my best friend. I even followed her when she bought her first house so we could live down the street from each other ;) We have so many things in common and she has been there for me through the tough times in my life. She is one of the easiest people to talk to and she gives great advice. She listened to me for years as I struggled to have a baby, she brought me flowers and wine when my efforts did not work and she was ready with celebratory champagne bubble bath when I finally got pregnant. She hunted down every type of food I wanted when I was stuck on bed-rest with my son and visited me more often than anyone. She really showed me what being a great friend meant. When she struggled to have her own babies, it broke my heart. If there was ever a person that I knew deep down in my heart would be a fantastic mother, it was Lisa. The heart that she has is incredible. She will do anything for her friends and family and she is simply put, one of the best people I have ever met. It seemed so unfair that she would not be able to be a mother. But, this is Lisa we are talking about. She is also one of the strongest willed, most determined people I have ever met. She pushed through her struggles like no one I had ever seen. I know it must have been tough for her, but she had a confidence in herself, and confidence that she would have a baby no matter what was thrown at her.
And, being the over-achiever we all know that she is, not only did she have one baby, but she had two! At the same time!
And now it is time to celebrate her first Mother’s day.
I have watched her become the best mother over the past 9 1/2 months. Those lucky little babies are her priority above everything else. She has done what’s best for them, even when it was so hard on her. I am so impressed that she has breastfed both those babies so long even though it was not the easiest thing at first. I have never seen her get flustered when she has two hungry babies crying at the same time, I have never seen her roll her eyes over yet another diaper change, I have never seen her upset that she couldn't socialize at events because she has to put two babies to sleep. Instead, I can see her happiness in taking care of them and that she treasures all the moments she has with her babies. I think she was not only meant to be a mommy but, she was meant to be the mommy to twins.
Happy first Mother’s Day Lisa! You are an amazing mom, an amazing friend and an amazing person. You deserve all the happiness that Addison and Ryan have brought you!
